Dakota Men and Women place FIRST out of 18 teams

Jayden Harberts finished first and Mariah Belmont third to lead Dakota to the team cross country championship in the Division 1 girls race at the Algonac Invitational at Stony Creek Eastwood Beach on Saturday.
Harberts finished the 5-kilometer run in 18 minutes, 26.8 seconds and Belmont in 19:25.3. Second-place Hannah DeRoeck of Lake Orion finished in 19:11.5.Lidia Clancy, 19th; Aubrey Rizzio, 23rd, and Julia Timpa, 27th, completed the scoring for Dakota, which had 72 points. Runner-up Stoney Creek had 83.
Dakota won the boys Division 1 meet with 43 points. Lake Orion had 60, Grosse Pointe South 137, Anchor Bay 160 and L’Anse Creuse 169 to complete the top five.
Carter Fox, third in 16:19.5, paced Dakota. Simon Davis, fourth in 16:32.5; Lucas LaMilza, seventh in 16:38; Colton Howell, eighth in 16:38.9, and Noah Redman, 21st in 17:22, also scored for the Cougars. Fox and Davis are seniors. Dakota’s other scorers are juniors.
Taye Levenson of Bloomfield Hills finished first in 15:43.4. Senior Dylan Penberthy of L’Anse Creuse North was second in 16:19.2. Senior Brandon Penberthy of L’Anse Creuse North was 11th in 16:46.4. Jack DeWaele of Chippewa Valley finished 12th in 16:48.1.
Zachary Rubicz, 24th in 17:32.1, was Anchor Bay’s first runner to finish. All-stater Thomas Westphal did not run.

Girls Results
The ladies from Dakota placed 1st of 19 teams at Stony Creek for this edition of the Muskrat Classic. The meet was moved to this location due to flooding at Algonac HS. The JV girls placed 3rd of 16 teams. The girls had individual winners in both races, Jayden Harberts and Kaitlyn Rizzo. Six ladies ran personal best times.

Boys Results
The boys team had five guys in the top 21 to seal the victory over the field of 19 teams. The JV boys also ran out on top, defeating 18 teams. Oliver Davis won the JV race. Ten of the guys ran personal best time on the new Eastwood beach course.
